The Lasso-Stop® function diagram

When the valve is in the open position (diagram, upper half), the diaphragm deflects inward, allowing passage of the media with very little pressure loss.  
Upon closing (diagram, lower half), there is a back-pressure condition and the diaphragm resumes its relaxed position, covering all apertures in the cone and creating tight shut off.
